Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET is a developing technology. Depending on the area of application, it is necessary for the cable to withstand increased mechanical, chemical and thermal stresses while simultaneously maintaining the defined transmission characteristics.
LEONI has actively responded to the growing demand for industrial Ethernet cabling by introducing a variety of different cable solutions, which are robust enough to survive in different industrial environments.
The Ethernet bus cable range from Cat 5e up to cat 7 is available with twisted pair or with quad elements. Ethernet cables for permanent installation are designed with solid copper conductors. For flexible applications, LEONI offers an extremely flexible Industrial trailing patch cable with fine-strand conductors.
Next to the Industrial Ethernet standard we support the PROFINET standard which is mechanically characterised by a very robust star-quad cable construction. PROFINET cables are available as type A, B and C. All FieldLink® bus cables for PROFINET are available with the ES (easy to strip) feature, which reduces significantly the time of installation.
PROFIBUS is one of the most successful fieldbus standards used around the world and is especially developed for the communication between digital field devices at the sensor/actuator level to higher level automation control systems.
The LEONI product range for PROFIBUS systems comprises shielded twisted pair cables as standard type; with polyethylene (PE) or polyurethane jacket, halogen-free versions, buried or drum cables, cables specially made for hazardous areas or cables with double jackets separated by a steel-tape armor offering total pest and rodent protection.
PROFIBUS ES cables (Easy Strip) can be quickly and easily cut to length and terminated on-site with the PROFIBUS ES system for fast installation. LEONI developed special types of PROFIBUS cables in accordance with the PROFIBUS specifications (www.profibus.com).

DeviceNet is a communication protocol in order to fulfill the most common machine requirements in the industrial automation sector. FieldLink® DeviceNet cables are developed to support these robust demands of the industrial communication.
All DeviceNet cables contain one power pair and one data pair. The basic version for fixed installation is protected by a rugged Polyvinylchloride jacket. Polyurethane for the outer jacket is used in high-flex fuels and mineral oil technology.
To live up to the demands of the American market, all FieldLink® bus cables for DeviceNet systems have the American UL and CSA approval.
The CAN bus cable is applied for the exchange of digital information and control device for faster data transmission.
LEONI offers shielded industrial FieldLink® bus cables for CAN standard, which are available as a two core cable or a two pair cable. The two core cable is used for connecting CAN bus components and is suitable for indoor installations. The two pair cable is used for flexible applications (drag chain). The jacket is made of Polyvinylchloride or Polyurethane.
LEONI offers Universal Serial Bus (USB) and FireWire (IEEE 1394) cables, which are optimised to the same high level of symmetry as current Ethernet cables. In contrast to the USB standard, within a FireWire system (IEEE 1394) all devices can take control of the system. A classic example is the binding of camera systems in the factory automation process.
All FireWire and USB cables are specified and built with special protection against fire, high temperatures, chemicals, UV radiation, mechanical stress and welding splatter. The cables are available ranging from AWG 20 to 28, and with or without integrated power supply wires.
In order to provide information to every drive device in a factory, LEONI offers all current feedback cable types for up to date motion control standards and standardization according to UL, CSA and DESINA. FieldLink® MC feedback cables supply the connected drive with the necessary data and programming to its performance. The cables also provide the information for positioning and control in order to put the drive into operation.
Digital feedback cables
With the help of LEONI-designed feedback cables transmitting so-called electronic identification plates, cutting-edge drive modules can be commissioned without time-consuming installation procedures. The highly sensitive feedback cables not only transmit all digital drive parameters to the transformers, they constantly supply all technical and logistical information to central control. When integrating drive systems into their overall setup, operators profit from drastically shortened installation times and, as a result, significant cost advantages.
One of the most important features of the new high-quality cables is the excellent quality of transmission, achievable only with maximum precision in design and production. Since even the smallest differences in signal propagation delay cause severe performance drops, the production of braids, cores and stranding elements is subject to minimum tolerance concerning all essential machine and stranding parameters. Special-purpose Foamskin moulding of the core insulation counteracts even the slightest pressure fluctuations. The use of corrosion-resistant, high-end shielding materials guarantees consistent dampening characteristics, especially during long-term operation under extreme mechanical stress.
LEONI offers the feedback cable in two versions:
- with a PVC outer jacket for flexible installation
- with a PUR jacket for cable trailing applications
Both versions present themselves as highly suited for industrial application. They are oil-resistant and flame-retardant as well as RoHS-conformant and of course certified by all typical UL and CSA standards.

FieldLink® MC power cables are highly flexible and designed for either the single power supply of drives as well as for signal transmission via one or two twisted pair elements for brakes or thermal sensors. They are standardised according to UL, CSA and DESINA and are highly EMC-compatible as well as insusceptible to electrical interferences.
